Cobb MS PTA Scholarship
Cobb PTA has a scholarship fund???
Yes, we’re building it now! In April 2013, the Cobb PTA membership voted to participate in the Frisco Education Foundation (“FEF”) Scholarship Program, and established the Cobb Middle School PTA Scholarship.
The very first Cobb PTA scholarships will be awarded in May 2015 to two deserving graduating seniors who attended Cobb Middle School.
What is the Frisco Education Foundation?
Like Cobb PTA, the FEF is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization working in partnership with Frisco Independent School District and the Frisco area community to enhance the educational opportunities of our students.
In 1999, the FEF was formed as a result of ten key investors who contributed more than $100,000 to start an endowment fund. The FEF has a board of directors and many corporations and organizations that continue to invest in and sustain it.
The endowment exists today to generate scholarship funds for graduating FISD seniors and grant money for FISD educators. To date, the FEF and its partners have awarded more than $2 million in scholarships and approximately $330,000 in grants!
In addition to scholarships funded by the Foundation, the FEF Scholarship Program also seeks outside donors (like local PTAs!) to award scholarships to FISD graduating high school seniors in the name of their corporation, organization, or in memory/honor of an individual.
How does the Cobb PTA scholarship get funded?
Scholarship money comes from the same PTA budget that is used to fund the anti-drug programs, teacher mini-grants, classroom learning tools, and other resources Cobb PTA has been providing since 2010.
Where does the PTA get the money to provide all these valuable things to our children? From you, of course. Your contributions in the form of PTA membership dues and fundraising donations are critical! These dollars are what builds and sustains Cobb PTA programs, resources, and now – scholarships!

My kids don’t graduate for years – why should I care about this now?
Your Cobb student WILL graduate someday (and it will be here before you know it!). FEF scholarships are endowed, which means that all money invested by Cobb PTA now will grow over time.
Here's how it works: With our members’ approval, Cobb PTA allocated $1,500 of the 2012-2013 budget for "Scholarship Contribution" to invest in our first endowment. This school year, we will again raise funds to contribute toward the endowment. Until the fund reaches endowment status, Cobb PTA will pay for two $500 scholarships starting with our first graduates in May 2015. Once the endowment fund reaches $10,000, it is considered fully endowed, and FEF will pay one $500 scholarship on behalf of Cobb PTA every single year. The PTA will budget funds to pay for another $500 scholarship and contribute the balance toward the endowment of a second scholarship. When the fund reaches $20,000, another $500 scholarship will be endowed for a second student’s scholarship. At that time, Cobb PTA will cease contributions and FEF will award two scholarships on Cobb PTA's behalf for as long as the FEF Scholarship Program is in existence.
The more money Cobb PTA can contribute to its FEF scholarship fund now, the sooner it will be endowed and available for YOUR kids when they graduate years from now.
Who chooses the recipients?
FISD graduating seniors will be given the opportunity to apply for multiple scholarships through the FEF. More information is available through FISD's FEF Webpage HERE. Frisco Education Foundation Scholarship application will go live at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 28. The deadline to submit the application is Friday, December 16, at 4 p.m. Two recipients will be selected by the FEF according to specific Cobb PTA selection criteria.
